Stop Listening To The Government When It Comes To Health And Do This Instead!

Stop Listening To The Government When It Comes To Health And Do This Instead!

Stop listening to the Government when it comes to your health. Yep, you heard us right. We've all heard of the eatwell guide and health recommendations the government puts out, right? Well, here’s the deal.

This guide is a recommendation that has been influenced by bad science, bid food as well as probably an element of the government wanting to feed the population cheaply. How can you tell?  Simply look at that nutritional plate, carbs and vegetables with minimal fats and protein. Weird when you consider protein and fats are essential nutrients to humans yet carbs are actually optional. Go figure. Let’s break down some further government recommendations.

Avoid Eggs? Think Again.

Eggs have unfairly garnered a bad reputation due to their cholesterol content. Dietary cholesterol has now been proven to not be a driver of cholesterol in the blood. Eggs are actually a nutritional powerhouse. Say goodbye to outdated beliefs and hello to the incredible benefits of eggs. With their high protein content and essential nutrients (Choline, Vitamin D, and Selenium among just a few others, see chart) in the yolk, incorporating 3 to 6 eggs into your daily diet can do wonders for your health.

Limit Red Meat? Not on My Plate.

Red meat has often been demonised for its saturated fat content and alleged health risks. But let's set the record straight, the studies that have shown red meat is bad make no distinction between processed meat and unprocessed meat. E.g. The studies treat a Mcdonalds burger and fries the same as a steak and salad.  No study has ever been able to prove red meat is bad, other than the processed kind. So enjoying a juicy steak daily can actually provide your body with tons of essential nutrients like iron, zinc, and B vitamins, in more bioavailable forms than plants. So go ahead, indulge guilt-free and savour every mouthful.

Avoid Dairy? Think Again, Greek Yogurt Lovers!

Dairy products have received their fair share of criticism, leading many to steer clear of them altogether or opt for low fat varieties that are higher in sugar. But hold your horses. Full Fat Greek yoghurt, in particular, packs a powerful punch when it comes to good fats, probiotics and protein and is a staple in my fridge. Imagine the government health advice preferring sugary cereal over this real traditional product that has been eaten by the Greeks for thousands of years. Add it to your next shopping list and reap the numerous health benefits it has to offer.

Limit Salt? Not in My Kitchen.

For years, we've been bombarded with messages to limit our salt intake to keep our blood pressure in check. But what if I told you that salt is not the enemy? In fact, our bodies need sodium to function properly. The distinction comes again in the processed versus unprocessed versions. Table salt has been heavily processed and doesn’t have the full mineral complement your body needs.  So instead of shying away from salt, embrace it, but just make sure it’s real sea salt in its purest form.

Avoid Butter? Butter Up, Baby.

Butter has often been vilified but again, the alternative is far worse. Margarines are highly processed and add unnecessary additives and seed oils. The truth: cooking with butter can add depth and flavour to your meals like no other and i’ve been eating and using butter lavishly my whole life, just as my Grandma did who lived to 96. So go ahead, ditch the margarine and reach for the real deal. Your taste buds—and your health—will thank you for it.

Follow the Money, Not the Government.

In a world where money talks, it's essential to follow the trail to uncover the truth behind health policies. Take, for example, Victoria Atkins, the new UK Health Secretary. Ever wonder who she's married to? None other than the CEO of ABF Sugar. Coincidence? I think not. It's time to question whose interests are really at stake and demand transparency in health policymaking.

In reality the government shouldn’t really need to get involved in your health. It’s your body and your life and with the right information, you can take control of your health and feel amazing.
