*Spoiler Alert* They are putting immune health on the map! Challenging pseudoscience, ridding our lives of junk ingredients, and illuminating how we can protect and heal our bodies.

SUNNA VAN KAMPENFounder & CEO

Every winter in London, I would find myself feeling constantly rundown and tired, ultimately resulting in at least four colds in as little as 4 months... I’d taken all the usual suspects to help my body fight off the viruses but nothing seemed to work.

One day, when coming down with something and I had an important event coming up that I really didn’t want to miss, I decided enough was enough. I thought there must be something I can do to speed up my recovery and kick the cold before it got started. So, I started experimenting in my kitchen by combing natural plants like ginger and lemon whilst loading up on vitamins. To my amazement I found it really worked. So, I started looking into the science and found a raft of clinical evidence on immune friendly vitamins, and minerals.

For me, the clincher was dose! You'd have to take the average vitamin tablet for 9 months a year to correct a deficiency, let alone replenish nutrient levels to optimal health. I wanted to be able to have an impact on my immune system immediately from the first sign of illness. So I set out on my mission to make the highest dose, highest impact immune support available to help people harness the power of their immune system.”

Dr Gemma Newmanaka The Plant Power Doctor

I’ve been in medicine for 17 years now, working across a range of specialities including elderly care, endocrinology, paediatrics, psychiatry, general surgery, urology, vascular surgery, and rehabilitation medicine. My experience has led me to a special passion for general practice, holistic health, lifestyle medicine, and the healing power of plant based nutrition.

I started working with Tonic because of their mission to empower people to take care of their immune system naturally. Your body can do marvellous things when you support it with good nutrition and whilst it’s always preferable to get your nutrients from diet, for a lot of people modern lifestyles can be challenging and diet suffers as a result.

Decongestants and cold and flu medicines can be useful for symptom control when we are ill, but we need to switch our focus from short term symptomatic relief to supporting our immune response so it can protect you naturally. Some studies show us that certain nutrients such as vitamin C, vitamin D and zinc can play important roles in reducing the amount of time it takes for you to get back to your healthy self.”

Emma McKie Nutritionist

Growing up in South East Asia (a melting pot of different cuisines), and living in a household of self proclaimed 'foodies', eating quickly became the most important part of my day.

My obsession with food led me to become a clinical nutritionist with a focus on functional health. I could begin to see the powerful effect nutrition plays in not only preventing illness, but optimising health. Our immune systems work so hard to protect us everyday so if all we have to do is eat well, it seems like a fairly easy way to feel a lot better! Wholefoods, lots of plants, and rich dietary fibre are my favourite tips to make your immune system and microbiome happy!”
