VITAMIN D DRINKS - RECIPE: THE WINTER WARMER

Vitamin D is essential for a functional immune system by activating anti-inflammatory and immunoregulatory properties, so we're doing all we can to make sure we get enough of it. Some of the of the other benefits of vitamin D include regulating the body's levels of calcium and phosphate, which are essential if we want healthy bones, teeth, and muscles.

A recent study (2020, Kara, et al.) studied the effects of vitamin D prevalence against morbidity and mortality rates in people with COVID-19. Their findings show that countries that have a low prevalence of Vitamin D (factors to consider are diet, lifestyle and sunlight exposure) had a higher burden of COVID-19 morbidity and mortality. 

Okay, so calling this recipe a drink is maybe a bit of a stretch, but it is definitely a good source of vitamin D, so we do recommend giving it a go! 

  • 3 cups of shiitake mushrooms (or if you can find them, try reishi mushrooms - they're our favourite due to their immune health benefits!)
  • 1 large handful of tuscan kale
  • 2 crushed garlic
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • 3 cups of bone broth
  • 1 tbsp all spice
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 tsp fennel seed

We don't recommend adding a sachet of our high-dose immunity drink
